Tour Itinerary
Explore our expertly designed itinerary below, crafted to showcase breathtaking views and provide unique adventures every step of the way.
Day 1: Cusco’s Gateway to Santa Rosa’s Serenity
Your odyssey through the Andean wilderness kicks off at the break of dawn. We whisk you away from your Cusco hotel at 4:30 a.m., embarking on a journey that will transcend the ordinary. As the city’s nocturnal blanket lifts, you’ll find yourself en route to Capuliyoc, with the promise of the Apurimac Valley’s grand vistas unfurling before you.
The drive is a spectacle in itself, with the towering guardians of the Andes, Salkantay and Humantay, saluting your passage through their ancient domain. Upon reaching Capuliyoc, you’ll have the opportunity to indulge in a local breakfast (at your own expense) before meeting the team who will become your companions on this extraordinary trek.
With every step descending through the ever-changing landscapes, your descent is a tapestry of flora and fauna, with the whispers of the Apurimac River guiding your path. The river, revered as the ‘Speaking God,’ offers a symphony of natural sounds and the thrill of class V rapids echoing in the canyon depths.
Your trek culminates at Santa Rosa, a tranquil haven where our private campsite awaits. Here, under the vastness of the Andean sky, you’ll relish a meticulously prepared dinner and share stories of the day’s descent, setting the stage for the adventures that lie ahead.
Accommodation: Camping
Meals: Lunch, Tea, and Dinner
Hiking: Approx. 6-7 hours, 15 km
Day 2: The Ascent to Choquequirao’s Mystical Throne
Awaken to the serene hush of the early Andean morning. Today’s chapter in your journey is a challenging ascent to the revered Choquequirao, a testament to Incan ingenuity and spirit. Your path is a living mosaic of cloud forests, with every turn offering panoramas that challenge the limits of your camera lens and the capacity of your wonder.
Choquequirao itself is an enigma, larger in expanse than its famed sister Machu Picchu, yet shrouded in the mystery of the 60% still sleeping beneath the earth. Here, you’ll roam among plazas and temples, stand before the intricate terraces, and marvel at the precision of ancient stonework that depicts the mountain’s sacred llamas.
As your guide weaves tales of history and myth, you’ll dine amongst the ruins, the complex’s silent stones standing sentinel as you break bread. The return to Marampata’s camp is a reflective journey, preparing for a night under a celestial showcase, where the Milky Way stretches across the sky in a display of cosmic splendor.
Accommodation: Camping
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tea, and Dinner
Hiking: Approx. 7-8 hours, 10 km
Important Notice:
In compliance with the new regulations established in Choquequirao, camping on the Choquequirao terraces has been prohibited since 2022. We are committed to respecting these rules to preserve the site’s heritage. While some operators may still advertise camping on the terraces, be advised that this goes against the official guidelines. To ensure an authentic and respectful experience, we have chosen Marampata, a picturesque location close to Choquequirao, as our official camping site. We strive to provide you with a memorable experience while upholding the integrity of this magnificent site.
Day 3: Retracing the Steps of the Ancients
Embrace the dawn with a sumptuous breakfast and prepare to retrace the steps of the Incas. The trail beckons you back through Choquequirao’s embrace and towards Santa Rosa, where a sweet interlude at a local hacienda awaits. Here, the rich taste of Cambray distilled from the hacienda’s sugar cane offers a moment of repose.
As the day unfolds, your descent to Rosalinas Beach is a journey back in time, with the Apurimac River offering a refreshing respite for weary feet. The ascent to Chiquisca is a narrative of endurance, rewarded by the warm embrace of our campsite. The evening’s feast is a celebration of the day’s conquests, where laughter and camaraderie stitch the fabric of shared memories under a canopy of stars.

Day 4: Capuliyoc’s Farewell and the Sayhuite Enigma
The final day of your trek begins with an invigorating breakfast, fueling your ascent to Capuliyoc. The path upwards is a collage of breathtaking vistas, each step a closer return to civilization and a bittersweet farewell to the wilds of the Apurimac Canyon.
The triumph of reaching Capuliyoc is commemorated with a farewell lunch, a feast that marks the completion of your trek. But the journey is not over. On your return to Cusco, you’ll unravel the mysteries of Sayhuite, home to the enigmatic monolith that whispers secrets of a bygone era through its intricate carvings.
As the adventure concludes and you find yourself back in Cusco, the spirit of the Andes lingers in your heart. The 4-Day Choquequirao Classic Trek is not merely a journey through trails and time but an indelible passage into the soul of the Inca world.
