The Urubamba River extends from the high Andes mountain range through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passes Machu Picchu, and enters the jungle. The Urubamba is divided into upper and lower Urubamba, the dividing feature is the Pongo, a canyon of white water which opens into the Amazon basin.
The Urubamba river has some great places for rafting, depending on the section of the river being done and the time of year. One of our most popular rafting sections during the season is the “Chuquicahuna- (CHUQUI)” at the top of Urubamba.
There are good class III rapids and the water is not contaminated as unfortunately, it is in the Sacred Valley. This section of rapids is perfect for day trips, with nice rapids class II, III, and III +. Along the route, there are excellent panoramic views of the banks with large eucalyptus trees and beautiful flowers.
