The Inca Quarry Trek to Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail is popular and permits are quickly sold out, so we advise you to book six months in advance.
Permits are exhausted 4-6 months in advance, when this happens, we offer the alternative road that is not subject to permit restrictions. This four-day trek to the Inca Quarry will take you through remote villages, passing stunning mountains and intact Inca ruins. It reaches altitudes of 4,400 m and is a less traveled route.
At the end of the walk we will transfer you to Aguas Calientes and then take the bus to Machu Picchu. The alternative hike can be added to any Inca Trail trip based on minimum numbers.
This hike to Cachiccata is a great alternative to the Inca Trail. The Cachiccata Trail was built by the Incas and used for hundreds of years to access local communities and thus transport goods.
This trail is not as well known as the classic Inca Trail, so many fewer crowds and a more serene trekking experience are expected in Peru. This hiking adventure not only visits Peru’s cultural past, but also explores modern Inca communities and customs.
The trail takes us through isolated waterfalls, ancient terraces and exotic fauna, while offering fantastic views of the Sacred Valley and the snowy mountains of Peru. Visit this new alternate inca Quarry route with Quechua speakers of this place and explore an active quarry.
Departure & Return Location:
Pick up from your hotel (5:30am – 6:00am).
After the Peruvian buffet breakfast at your hotel, our guide and driver will arrive by private vehicle to transfer you to Socma, which takes approximately two hours where we will meet with our muleteer and the horses.
From here we will walk uphill for approximately two hours, passing through mountain meadows and local families. We reached a small isolated waterfall and the archaeological ruins of Perolniyoc where we camped at night.
This day to start we will wake you up with a hot coca tea and after breakfast we start walking uphill and through some small farms. We reach the highest pass from which we savore the view of several snow-capped mountains. After lunch in Mamacocha, we will go to Choqetacarpu (a small Inca site) where we will camp.
We prepare for a spectacular sunrise. The first rays of sun hit the mountain, called Waccay Willca (Veronica). We take the time to explore the area, including the Inti Punku (Sungate), an Inca structure that frames the Waccay Willca mountain. After our breakfast, we walk to the quarry of Ollantaytambo to look for lintels (large pieces of pink granite) that were carved by the Incas.
On the way, we will see Chullpas (Inca burial places) hidden in the sides of the mountains and finally we will finish our walk in the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will settle in a small hotel and have dinner at one of the many local restaurants.
After an early breakfast, we walk to the Ollantaytambo train station to take the first train for a 1.5 hour trip by train to the town of Aguas Calientes. (The train meanders through the river valley with changing climatic zones, views of the majestic mountains and glimpses of ancient ruins).
From Aguas Calientes, we take the bus service for 30 minutes to the Inca site of Machu Picchu, where we enjoy a private guided tour, followed by time to walk alone. In the afternoon, we will return to Aguas Calientes and board our train back to Cusco.
We also offer a special service only for you or your group, you have the power to choose the size of your group and the date of departure, we will never add other people since it will be organized only for you.
