Trek to Humantay Lake in 1 day, an impressive lake without so many tourists (if you go with us), since we leave Cusco early in the morning to beat the crowds, this is because Humantay today receives more than 500 people per day and it is one of the most visited places in Cusco due to its extraordinary beautiful view.
The walk itself is a bit difficult, not on your body but you can definitely feel the shortness in breath, however, once you see this beautiful lake and the views of the glacier, you will not regret at all. Please make sure you have spent at least 2 days in Cusco before doing this trek.
Lake Humantay is located at the bottom of a Mountain with the same name at more than 4,250 m.a.s.l. It is in the territory of the Mollepata district, province of Anta in the Cusco region, since 2017 the tourism has increased to visit it because access to the place is much easier.
Departure & Return Location:
Pick up from your hotel (3:00am – 3:30am).
To make this tour like “Off The Beaten Path“, we will need to pick you early in the morning from your hotel in Cusco, we drive to the south of Cusco by a normal track for 2 hours untill Mollepata, this is the place where we will have an early breakfast in one of the local restaurants (included). After our breakfast we continue driving by a bumpy road to Soraypampa (1 hour).
We start hiking from Soraypampa (3.900 m.a.s.l.) to the Humantay Lake, one of the many hidden gems of Peru’s highland region. There is two options, to hike up or ride a horse (Optional). We normaly hike up since we will be early at starting point, it takes 1.5 hours hiking to reach the lake and 30 min on horse.
The hike is tough, but when you reach the top and see the stunning colors of Lake sitting under the glacier of Humantay, you forget every fight you went through to get there. You will have a lot of time to get nice shots! and enjoy the lake without the crowds, our tour guide will show you some great spots to take photos.
After about an hour we will head down to Soraypampa (1 hour), the hike down is considerably easier than going up, but it is important to bring good hiking shoes as the ground is not stable at several parts of the trek. Once we get to the car, we drive to Mollepata to have lunch (Included), on the way we will have fantastic views of the valley and mountain.
Afterwards we drive back to the city of Cusco for 2 more hours and finish this amazing day trip with the drop off at the main gate of your hotel.

Beautiful lake, so worth the climb!
One of the most beautiful lakes I’ve ever seen! The trek wasn’t too easy and you need to get used to the high altitude first. About 75% of the way is about 50 degrees inclination and the rest is 75 degrees, so it’s pretty steep. The lagoon is super blue and of course it makes you want to jump in, but no one is allowed to. To get to almost to the top, you can ride a horse too.
Beautiful place! The way up is not easy but it was totally worth it!
Beautiful lake.water is crystal clear.trekking is difficult
Nice view with Salkantay mountain.
