Cusco – Huchuy Phynaya – Chocolate Lake - Cusco
Your adventure starts with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco, followed by a scenic drive to Huchuy Phynaya. Here, you'll fuel up with a boxed breakfast, preparing for the ascent to Chocolate Lake. This trek, while challenging due to its high altitude, offers a plethora of natural scenes that make every step worthwhile. The local flora and fauna, along with small, unique communities en route, provide a glimpse into the vibrant life of the Andes.
As you approach Chocolate Lake, situated near one of Cusco's tallest mountains, Mount Ausangate, its striking color and serene setting will take your breath away. Your guide will share insights into the lake's unique hue and the significance of the Ausangate region. This is a perfect opportunity to explore, immerse in the tranquility, and capture moments of this Andean gem.
After basking in the beauty of Chocolate Lake, you'll embark on your return trek to Huchuy Phynaya, where a delightful boxed lunch awaits. Concluding the day, relax on the drive back to Cusco, where you'll arrive at your hotel between 6 and 7 p.m. This immersive trek not only showcases the natural beauty of the Andes but also offers a window into the life and culture of its people.
Given the high altitude of the trek, it's advisable to spend a day acclimatizing in Cusco before embarking on this journey. This precaution ensures you can fully enjoy the experience and the breathtaking landscapes of Chocolate Lake.
