2 Day Ausangate Lake (Cocha) Trek plus Rainbow Mountain

Come and join us on this hike to Ausangate Cocha plus Rainbow Mountain Trek – 2 Days, we offer it as an alternative trek to the popular Humantay lake trek, since the Ausangate Mountain has the stunning blueish-green glacier lake too, and the hike to this lake will be less hard than the Humantay lake, this is because the path we hike is mostly flat.

The Ausangate Lake is located in the district of Pitumarca, province of Canchis in the Cusco Region; it can be trekked in 1, 2, or more days; it also gives you a good view of the Ausangate massif Mountain. We recommend you acclimatize for at least a few days in Cusco before attempting this hike.

The scenery in Ausangate to Rainbow Mountain is beyond words; the views while trekking will take your breath away; if you love trekking, you should choose this trek because you will not be disappointed. You won’t lose any weight with us! Our Master Chef will prepare delicious food for you.

If you missed the Inca or Salkantay Treks, we highly recommend you Ausangate to Rainbow Mountain trek.

Departure & Return Location:

Hotel Cusco.

Departure Time:

Pick up from your hotel (4:00am – 4:30am).

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Tacurani - Ausangate Lake - Hanchipacha.

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco; then we will drive to Tacurani for approximately 3 hours, where our chef will prepare us a delicious breakfast to begin our impressive walk. Here, our guide will introduce you to our chef and driver, who will be part of your family during these 2 days of hiking.

Once we are finished with breakfast, we head towards the highest mountain in Cusco (Ausangate); the first 30 min will be gradually uphill, and after we have 1 hour flat until we reach the Ausangate Lake (Ausangate Qocha), on the way, we will see thousands of alpacas that belongs to the local people from the area.

You will have plenty of time to spend at this lake, you will see how this lake keeps its turquoise color as it has the Humantay lake in the Salkantay route, the color is because of high concentration of minerals that abound in this lake that is a gift from our nature mother.

After we back to the starting point by the same trail, which will be pretty much more accessible, since we hike down for 1 hour, at arrival time we will enjoy our buffet lunch prepared by our Master Chef, then we drive back to the community of Hanchipacha which will be our campsite for this night.

Tee will be served at around 5:00 pm, and 1.5 hours later, you will enjoy dinner.

Day 2: Hanchipacha - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco.

Today is the day we go to rainbow mountain. To be the first ones there, we will need to wake you up a bit early, and this is because we like to beat the crowds so that we will wake you up at around 4:00 am to then have an early breakfast, after we drive to the Labramani (30 min), which will be the starting point of our hike to the rainbow mountain.

It will be 1-hour hiking to reach the summit and see the rainbow mountain, and the most surprise will be the only ones at the top for a while, and then it will start to get busy because of the day tours. After, we will continue to hike the unknown red valley to the one on the left side of the rainbow mountain.

The route to the red valley is very new; it takes 40 min hiking gradually up; once you reach the top, it will be mind-blowing for you. Our tour leader will explain to you all about these fantastic mountains. Later on, we back to the starting point of our hike to take our transport, who will take us back to the lunch spot.

Afterward, we drive back to Cusco for about 3 hours and drop you off at the main gate of your hotel.

The arrival time is around 5 pm.
